1. What Can the ShareDisk be used for?

ShareDisk has a variety of applications. It is ideal for all users that cannot afford NAS systems, such as small to mid-size business firms, SOHO (Small Office Home Office), office environments, schools, and public institutions. NDAS technology's convenience and low cost provide the best solution for home/office networking storage.

.     Use as storage for Personal Computer users and home networking (storing and sharing files, backup / archiving, etc.)

.     Expanding storage requirements

.     Business primary or secondary network storage

.     Public institution's storage for data archives, disclosed data, backups, and conservation of data

.     Multimedia storage device (MP3s, Digital Photos, Digital Video)

2. How is the ShareDisk different from a NAS or SAN?

NDAS technology is the world's most advanced and smart network storage solution. Other competitor network storage solutions like NAS are still based on decade-old technology. Consequently, NDAS enables many advanced features and a higher performance standard which other solutions are not able to provide.

3. What Operating Systems does ShareDisk support?

ShareDisk supports:

Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista and Mac OS X 10.0 - 10.4

BETA drivers are available for: Windows Pocket CE, and Linux.

If you are using via USB, then ShareDisk uses your Operating System's built-in drivers. You DO NOT have to install drivers. If using Windows 98SE, then you will have to download USB drivers from our website.

If you are using Windows 2003 Server, then it is recommend to reformat the
drive from the 2003 Server before use.

ShareDisk Wireless supports:

Windows 2000/XP/2003 Only. There is no USB port.

4. What file system does ShareDisk use or come preformatted to?

ShareDisk is file system independent.
Your Operating System has specific file system requirements.
ShareDisk does come pre-formatted in NTFS, but can be formatted to any file system that your OS can support.

5. Does Co-World GmbH perform or provide Data Recovery Services?

Co-World GmbH does not perform any data recovery services.
If you are unable to access data on your ShareDisk due to a defective Hard Drive, you may wish to contact an independent, data recovery service provider.

If the Hard Drive is still functioning, there is Data Recovery software out there that can get your data back.

6. How many users can use a ShareDisk?

Theoretically, there is no limit, but we recommended not more than 16 simultaneous connections.

7. Can I use ShareDisk over a VPN or as an FTP server?

Currently, ShareDisk cannot be used directly over a VPN directly or as an FTP server. You can use a file sharing method such as Windows File Sharing to access ShareDisk over a VPN, but that would require a host computer to be on in order for ShareDisk to be accessible. For FTP, you can connect ShareDisk to an FTP server and have files downloaded directly to ShareDisk.

8. Do I have to install ShareDisk software on all my computers?

Any computer that will access NetDisk in NDAS (Ethernet) mode will need to have our software installed.

USB does NOT require any drivers to be installed unless you are using Windows98SE.

9. Does ShareDisk have an IP address?

ShareDisk does not use IP Addressing and does not run TCP/IP.

We have developed a very unique technology called NDAS- Network Direct Attached Storage that is designed to run with lower overhead and eliminates the need for a processor. In turn, this makes speeds much faster and your data more secure.

10. Are there any known issues with ShareDisk?

There is a compatibility issue when used with certain wireless routers/cards. It does work when not using the wireless function (wired connection).

The unsupported routers/cards are:
DLINK-713P, 714P
SMC-7004AWBR, SMC7000VWBR
Linksys WAG54G
Linksys WPC11 Version 4 card

The devices previously listed are still incompatible as well as almost every Draft N product available. We will not be supporting any type of N wireless device until it is certified.

If you have a router using that has Turbo Mode, then you may have to switch to 54G mode to use with ShareDisk.

Also Mirroring and Aggregation of NetDisk is not supported via wireless. Every computer must access ShareDisk from a wired connection if using this feature.
