Fazit: Rekordverdächtig schnell
Bei einer Herstellerangabe von 60 MB/s gingen wir davon aus, dass die ShareDisk Gigabit Pro die Performance üblicher NAS-Geräte deutlich übertreffen würde. Dass das Co-World-Gerät auf Grundlage der NDAS-Technologie von Ximeta allerdings so gut funktioniert, dass es für übliche 3,5" SATA-Festplatten so gut wie gar keinen Flaschenhals darstellt hat dennoch überrascht.
Wir griffen zu einer im Alltagsbetrieb aufgrund ihrer hohen Abwärme eher schlecht geeigneten Western Digital Raptor-Festplatte, um die Leistungsgrenze der ShareDisk Gigabit Pro auszuloten und können feststellen: Das Co-World-Gerät bietet eine im Vergleich mit anderen NAS-Geräten doppelte bis dreifache Performance und ist das erste Netzwerk-Speichergerät, das selbst aktuelle Festplatten so gut wie nicht ausbremst. Da kein Lüfter vorhanden ist, arbeitet es außerdem sehr leise. Alles was Sie benötigen ist ein Treiber samt kompakter Client-Software, so dass der Einsatz auf Windows-PCs und Mac OS beschränkt ist. Für große Arbeitsgruppen ist das NDAS-Prinzip allerdings ohnehin nicht ausgelegt. Neben der Gigabit-Netzwerkschnittstelle ist es außerdem möglich, die ShareDisk Gigabit Pro via USB 2.0 oder eSATA zu verwenden. Letzteres bietet naturgemäß die beste Performance; der Unterschied zum Netzwerkbetrieb ist jedoch nur beim Schreiben spürbar.
Aufgrund des der ShareDisk Gigabit Pro zugrundeliegenden, proprietären Protokolls kann von einem "echten" NAS-Gerät genau genommen nicht mehr gesprochen werden - denn der Zugriff auf das Laufwerk ist ohne die passende Software von einem Handheld, einer Xbox oder ähnlichen Client-Geräten schlicht nicht möglich. Über den Umweg einer Netzwerkfreigabe an einem Client-PC mit Windows oder Mac OS samt notwendiger Berechtigung lässt sich der Zugriff dennoch realisieren; der Client-PC muss dazu allerdings logischerweise eingeschaltet sein.
Optisch und haptisch erfüllt die ShareDisk Gigabit Pro ebenfalls unsere Erwartugen; die im Fall unseres Testexemplares von Hand nachgelötete Platine sollte bei im Handel erhältlichen Modellen nicht mehr anzutreffen sein. Mit mindestens 350 Euro für die 500-GB-Variante müssen Sie schon rechnen; im Vergleich mit anderen, professionellen NAS-Geräten für eine einzelne Festplatte geht das jedoch noch in Ordnung - vor allem in Anbetracht der hervorragenden Performance. Der Hersteller ermöglicht es außerdem, zwei ShareDisks in einem RAID-Array zusammenzuschalten. Wer in so eine Richtung tendiert sollte auch einen Blick auf die Professional-Modelle werfen, denn diese sind für bis zu acht Festplatten geeignet.

These results clearly show Coworld's ShareDisk Gigabit Pro in NDAS mode outperforms other storage devices. The performance of the ShareDisk is almost on par with internal SATA hard disk drives.

In combination with NDAS players or as stand alone external HDD drive you can use in USB, Network and eSata mode, this is it. Saves you money in power consumption and the performance saves time as well and we all know time is money ? Add to that that you get tremendous speed and a no fuss setup that is plug and play with the media players. We deem the ShareDisk good because of the hard pricing, the rest is very good.
